About the Office
The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated Blaine County, San Andreas — a jurisdiction of desert highways, ranch land, and the townships of Sandy Shores, Grapeseed, and Paleto Bay. Deputies work long stretches of county road where backup is measured in minutes, not blocks, and where judgment matters as much as procedure.
The office runs three substations, ten divisions, and a structured chain of command. Every deputy is trained through a full academy and field training program, held to written general orders, and answerable to independent civilian oversight — because out here, authority is earned and audited.

Questions applicants actually ask
Do I need prior law enforcement experience?
No. The academy and field training program teach everything from radio procedure to felony stops. We hire for judgment, professionalism, and reliability — the rest is trained.
How long does the hiring process take?
Applications are reviewed within days of submission. Qualified applicants are scheduled for an oral board, and academy intakes run in classes — most recruits go from application to the academy within a couple of weeks.
How do I get into SRU, K-9, Air Support, or another specialized unit?
Every specialized unit selects from the office's own patrol ranks. Reach solo certification, build a clean record, and apply for transfer when the unit posts openings. Strong patrol work is the only door in.
What happens if recruitment is closed?
Hiring windows open ahead of each academy class. Join the community Discord — new intake announcements are posted there first.
I was denied before. Can I reapply?
Yes. Denials include the reason in your notice, and most applicants are eligible to reapply after 14 days. Fix what the notice flagged and try again — persistence is not held against you.

File a Report Against a Deputy
Accountability is not optional at the Blaine County Sheriff's Office. If a deputy treated you unprofessionally, used force improperly, or acted outside policy — in any encounter, on any shift — you have the right to file a complaint, and the office has the duty to investigate it.
Civilian-run. Not officer-reviewed.
Internal Affairs is staffed entirely by civilian personnel. No sworn deputy — of any rank — reviews, investigates, or decides the outcome of a complaint. Reports go directly to the civilian IA board, so every review is fair, unbiased, and independent of the chain of command.
Reports are confidential and may be filed anonymously. Filing a report will never affect how deputies treat you in future encounters — retaliation is itself a chargeable policy violation.
What to include
- Date, time, and location of the incident
- Name, badge number, or callsign of the deputies involved (if known)
- A clear description of what happened
- Any evidence — clips, screenshots, or witnesses
- How you'd like to be contacted, or note that you wish to remain anonymous
